Ushaw Library

The little known Ushaw Library, which houses one of the most comprehensive collections on Catholicism in the 18th Century, as well as first edition copies of books such as Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, and Ulm Cosmographia, is open to visitors. This page will direct you through the history of the library, the collections we have here, and give details on how to contact the Archivist and Librarian to arrange a visit. 


Ushaw Library has an illustrious and rich history, dating back as far as the English College at Douai in 1568. With a long history of donation and writing, learn more about Ushaw Library's history across Europe.
